In order to be able to offer simply constructed and practical furniture made of inexpensive solid wood to a broad section of the population in the post-war years, the Zurich designer Jacob Müller founded the Werkgenossenschaft Wohnhilfe in 1945 together with master carpenters from eastern Switzerland. Soon afterwards, in addition to Müller's designs, designs by other designers were also produced by Wohnhilfe. These were particularly notable for the fact that they could be taken apart and reassembled by the customers themselves. This is also the case with this bench by Jacob Müller, which he designed for the Werkgenossenschaft Wohnhilfe: the four tapered legs can be removed from the seat thanks to the simple construction of the piece of furniture. The bench is in a beautiful used condition.
