Italy 1970s. This elegant pair of white lacquered wooden bedside tables with golden brass elements by the famous Italian designer Luciano Frigerio will add that certain eclectic touch to any bedroom. The bedside tables have a drawer with a brass handle. The lower part of the tables is open. The white surface has a raised brass strip on the back. The back of each bedside table is engraved with the "Frigerio di Desio" logo of the Italian manufacturer. The bottom of the tables is slightly recessed and is also made of golden brass. Luciano Frigerio is one of the most famous Italian designers. Frequent visits to renowned artisan workshops such as Canturine, where he often met masters such as Gio' Ponti, Franco Albini, Carlo De Carli and Tapio Wirkkala, led to the transformation of his small family business into a company aimed at the international market (Frigerio di Desio). Already in the 1960s it was common practice to order specialized literature and magazines aimed at the sector from the USA. One of the technicians who worked closely with Frigerio helped him to realize his dream of creating a unique piece of furniture, combining as many excellent materials as possible. From this idea came “Mobili Scultura” (furniture sculptures) in solid wood and the headboards for “Letti scultura” (bed sculptures) in bronze, creating a completely new style that stood out from the industrial production of the time. Over the years a close collaboration was established with some famous architects and Italian designers such as Franco Albini, Sergio Asti and later Paolo Portoghesi. Luciano Frigerio asked them to design some pieces of furniture to realize an artisan workshop and created a series of limited and signed pieces. He was absolutely convinced that even an architect could design furniture, a unique and high-quality piece made by a carpenter and not just furniture on an industrial scale. This philosophy led to the company's growth from the '70s to the '90s, with the opening of ten showrooms in the largest Italian cities, one of which was in Via Montenapoleone in Milan, where many haute culture fashion designers had their costume design studios.
