A coconut cut into eight pieces - this was Nelson's inspiration for this armchair. The clear, timeless, yet slightly playful lines of this armchair, designed in 1955, are typical of George Nelson's design: the trained architect and Yale graduate created a wide range of everyday objects in the first two post-war decades with the idea of bringing modern design into America's homes and offices. As design director of Herman Miller, a position he held until 1972, and head of his own design office, "George Nelson Associates Inc.", he also succeeded in doing this beyond the country's borders. He is considered a pioneer for design in the United States. In addition to his own contribution, he was also the driving force that brought well-known designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, Isamu Noguchi and Alexander Girard to Herman Miller. The armchair on offer in black leather is in good condition with signs of wear.
