Seller's description
Ilmari Tapiovaara, Finnish designer and interior architect, started his career after his studies as an assistant in Le Corbusier's office in Paris. During World War II, he was busy designing shelters and field furniture for the Finnish army, relying on local materials and simple tools as neither nails nor screws were available. He later recalled this period and described it as a first-class school. Tapiovaara's decisive breakthrough came after the war, when he and his wife won a competition to furnish the rooms and common areas of the Domus Academica student dormitory. He always strived to create affordable furniture that met the needs of everyday life. His designs were characterized by clean lines and functionality and gained recognition for their simplicity and elegance. The stools on offer date from the 1950s and were made by the Finnish producer Hagafors. They are in good vintage condition. The price is per piece
