Chair 612 was designed in 1946/1947 by the Finnish architect, urban planner and designer Alvar Aalto. Together with his wife Aino, the art patron Maire Gullichsen and the art historian Nils-Gustav Hahl, Aalto founded the company Artek in 1935, under which the chairs were produced. His designs quickly became popular - because, in contrast to other designers of his time, Aalto avoided the use of metal and instead used birch wood, which is widespread in Finland and which lower-income families could also afford. This model is no longer manufactured today. The chair was originally sold by the Wohnbedarf company (parts of the stamp can still be seen). The chair with a back made of braided textile strips and a seat made of dark fabric is in good condition with slight signs of wear.
