Seller's description

Marcel Breuer designed the cantilever chair with its characteristic, traditional Viennese wickerwork on the seat and backrest, which contrasts with the modern-looking tubular steel, in 1928. Thonet has been producing the cantilever chair under the name S32 / S64 since 1930 and continues to manufacture these iconic chairs to this day. Before the American company Knoll International added it to its range, it was the Italian entrepreneur Dino Gavina to whom Breuer sold the rights to certain designs. However, after less than a decade, Gavina had to sell his company due to economic difficulties. It was Knoll International that acquired the bankrupt company in 1968 - including the rights to Marcel Breuer's Cesca, Wassily and Laccio chairs and tables.
