Embru is a renowned Swiss furniture manufacturer with a long tradition. The company's origins date back to 1873, when Rudolf Hess-Vontobel acquired the Pilgersteg, a workshop for the production of hardware that was powered by water power. In 1895, his son Hermann began producing steel wire mattresses and iron beds, entering an untapped field in Switzerland. Since then, Embru has established itself as a respected furniture manufacturer. In the 1930s, Embru worked closely with “New Building” architects and thus contributed to Swiss design history. Well-known Swiss design icons such as the Landibank by Alfred Altherr and the armchair by Werner Max Moser were created. In addition to these well-known designs, Embru also created numerous factory designs. This armchair is a factory design from 1936 and was originally used as a hospital armchair. The Ottoman is a work by Breuer and is perfect as an allonge to the armchair. Both objects are in good vintage condition.
