The clear, timeless and yet slightly playful lines of this coffee table, designed in 1954, are typical of George Nelson's design: the trained architect and Yale graduate created a wide range of everyday objects in the first two post-war decades with the idea of bringing modern design into America's homes and offices. As design director of Herman Miller, a position he held until 1972, and head of his own design office "George Nelson Associates Inc.", he also succeeded in doing this beyond the country's borders. He is considered a pioneer of design in the United States. In addition to his own contribution, he was also the driving force that brought well-known designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, Isamu Noguchi and Alexander Girard to Herman Miller. The white coffee table is in good to very good condition with slight signs of wear.
