Seller's description
George Nakashima is one of the most famous artisans of the 20th century, best known for his handcrafted furniture and fine feel for wood. In the early 1940s, Hans and Florence Knoll met Nakashima and were impressed by the simple elegance of his works. Soon after, they included a chair and three of his tables in the Knoll catalog. The first orders were placed in Nakashima's own studio before production moved to East Greenville. The series was discontinued in 1955 when Nakashima decided to manufacture and market all of his designs himself. In collaboration with George Nakashima's daughter Mira, Knoll International reissued the Straight Chair in 2008. This model is from the 2008 reissue. The chair is made of American walnut and is in very good condition with light signs of wear.
