Seller's description

During her time at Kingswood Girls' School, Florence Knoll became friends with the Finnish architect Eilel Saarinen, with whom she later studied architecture in Cranbrook. On the recommendation of Saarinen, with whose son Eero she maintained a close relationship, Knoll then studied at various American universities under some of the greatest architects of the modern era, such as the former Bauhaus professors Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. In 1941 she met Hans Knoll in New York. He initially hired her for various interior design projects, later as a full-time employee of his company, which was initially called the Hans G. Knoll Furniture Company. A few years later the two married and she became a full-fledged business partner. The successful company realized numerous designs by Florence Knoll, including the "Florence Knoll Sofa 1205 S3". This example is the Relax variant, a softer version with deeper proportions, which was presented on the occasion of Florence Knoll's 100th birthday in 2017. The sofa on offer is upholstered in the anthracite-colored Dedar Romeo and Giulietta fabric and is in very good condition.
